2. To inculcate versatility in psychomotor skills, including practical decision making skills, attitude and communication skills regarding use of drugs at the undergraduate level.

b) Learning objectives:

At the end of the course the students is expected to learn and acquire knowledge regarding:

  • The general principles of actions and effects of various drugs and their kinetics.
  • Dose related effects of drugs.
  • Indications, contraindications, interactions and adverse effects of therapeutically used drugs.
  • The concept of essential drugs and the importance of rational drug therapy.
  • To prescribe rationally based on the efficacy, safety and cost effectiveness for a particular disease depending on both individual and community needs.
  • To prescribe drugs in special situations such as pregnancy, lactation, infancy and old age.
  • Clinically relevant problem based knowledge.
  • Simple facts on legal aspects of drug use.
  • Computer assisted learning to acquire a better understanding of the subject.
