Department Of General Medicine

1) INTRODUCTION:

Department of general medicine is the backbone of clinical departments of this institute which provides over the clock opinion and guidance in case management as well treatment guidelines. It was established in 1990 and is now headed by Professor Dr. S Suresh Kanna M.D., FICP. It is a postgraduate department which endeavour actively to provide advanced healthcare to patients, excellence in education, innovation and research. Our team evaluate extensively to diagnose, treat and prevent all common and uncommon illness.

The mission of department of general medicine of Government Mohan kumaramangalam medical college is to be the centre of excellence in critical care services, diagnosis and clinical research to provide the best treatment outcome.

To create excellent and equitable diagnosis and care for all patients

C. GOAL AND OBJECTIVE :

  • To address emerging and challenging disease like COVID-19, OMICRON, influenza.
  • Provide better diagnostic modalities to patients
  • To impart new updates in postgraduates on newer drugs and management protocols by academic activities
  • To orient the undergraduates in managing medical emergencies , diagnosing and treating diseases by consolidating their knowledge
  • To inculcate basic communication skills with patients and attenders in undergraduates.
  • Improve research activities

OUR TEAM PROVIDE SUCCESSFUL TREATMENT TO ALL KINDS OF SNAKE BITE WITH SPECIALIZED CRITICAL CARE UNITS EXCLUSIVE FOR SNAKE BITE.

POISONING MANAGEMENT

COMMON POISONING CASES WHICH WE ROUTINELY TREAT INCLUDE INSECTICIDE POISONING LIKE ORGANO PHSOPATES , HAIR DYE , PLANT POISONS ,RAT KILLER , KEROSENE POISON , PHENOL AND HOUSEHOLD TOILETRIES, OLEANDER , DATURA , ODUVALUM LEAF, TABLET POISONING.

WE PROVIDE ROUND THE CLOCK CARE FOR ALL KINDS OF ORGANIC, SYNTHETIC, TABLET AND PESTICIDE POISONS.

WE ARE FRONTLINERS IN TAMIL NADU DISTRICT IN PLASMAPHERESIS THERAPY ( PLEX THERAPY) FOR RAT KILLER PASTE POISONING CASES.

WE INITIALLY STARTED WITH ARI OPD AND SARI WARD WHICH WAS THEN UPGRADED TO FULL FLEDGED COVID-19 WARDS, COVID-19 IMCU AND ARI OPD WITH O2 BEDS.

EVEN DURING THE PEAKS OF COVID-19 , BOTH IN FIRST WAVE AND SECOND WAVE OUR TEAM RAN WITHOUT ANY FAILURE AND WE HAD EVEN PROVIDED SURGICAL CARE, DIALYSIS CARE AND OBSTETRIC & GYNECOLOGICAL CARE FOR COVID-19 POSITIVE CASES.

SINCE THE ONSET OF COVID 19 WE HAVE ADMITTED AND TREATED MORE THAN 12545 COVID-19 POSITIVE CASES AND 45,768 SARI (SUB ACUTE RESPIRATORY ILLNESS CASES). OUR WELL EXPERIENCED TEAM ARE PIONEERS IN THE DISTRICT FOR ALL TYPES OF COVID RELATED TREATMENT AND VACCINATION CAMPAIGN.

CME ON UPDATE IN CRITICAL CARE CONDUCTED ON 26-08-2022

CME on critical care comprising of topics like parquat poisoning management, sepsis updates and OPC poisoning was organized by the department of General medicine on 26-08-2022. Panel discussion compromising experts from medical gastroenterology, cardiology, anesthesiology and critical care made the event graceful. There was workshop on Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and basics of mechanical ventilators. More than 450 registered and 300 delegates participated in the event.
