The Department of Urology has started in 1992 with 2 urologists. Under the Pradhan Mandhri Suraksha Yojana scheme, a super specialty hospital was started at an estimate of 120 crores on 12.02.2005, since then the Department of Urology functioning in PMSSY block. The Department of Urology is a full-fledged teaching institution for MCh Urology Super Specialty Course approved by Medical Council of India from the year 2020 and it is affiliated to The Tamilnadu Dr.MGR Medical University Guindy, Chennai, Tamilnadu.
The Department of Urology is a tertiary care centre carrying the referrals from neighbouring districts Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Namakkal, Erode, Kallakurichi and with facilities like Endo Urology, Renal Transplantation both Live & Cadaver Kidney Transplantation, Laparoscopic Urological Surgeries, PCNL, RIRS with LASER Lithotripsy, ESWL and etc for urological stone disease, Radical surgeries like Nephrectomy, Cystectomy, Nephroureterectomy & etc for urological cancers.
Reconstructive urological surgeries like Pyeloplasty, Urethroplasty, Cystoplasty, Urinary diversions & etc. Department provides 24 hours urological trauma care, Department provides Andrology & Male fertility care and Department provides No Scalpel Vasectomy for family planning for males. Department has high end equipment like Ultrasonogram, Urodynamic Equipment, in addition to CT scan, MRI, Digital X-Ray & etc facilities by Radiology department.
Department of Urology conducting MCh Urology Super Speciality PG course with National Medical Council approval & intake of 4 MCh Urology PG's per year & 1st batch joined 2020.
