Introduction

The Radiotherapy department was started in the year 2008 at Govt Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital, Salem. Telecobalt machine (model Theratron Phoenix) was installed in the Radiotherapy department in February 2009 for the treatment of cancer patients. It has been more than 10 years since the Telecobalt machine was installed.

New Digital Teletherapy Machine, i.e. TeleCobalt Equinox 80 machine, started functioning since August 2021.

A state of the art, highly sophisticated Linear Accelerator with dual mode (Photon and Electron) and multiple energies has been sanctioned. The Linear Accelerator machine provides state of art controls with modern proven technology like 3D CRT, IMRT, IGRT, IMAT, SRS & SRT with numerous time saving features. A HDR Brachytherapy machine has also been sanctioned. In sequence, the bunker construction for the Linear Accelerator is nearing completion and machine installation is expected to begin from November 2022.
