Introduction

The Department of Pathology has its origins since the inception of the college in 1986. The annual intake of students for MBBS being 100, and Postgraduates in MD being 6 per year, and paramedical course DMLT 100 students, and Degree course BSc (MLT) 20 students, other ancillary Degree courses for teaching include BSc (Cardiac Tech), BSc (OT), and BSc (Nursing).

The laboratory services of the department caters to almost 7 neighbouring & surrounding districts of our centre, viz. Namakkal, Karur, Dharmapuri, Erode, Krishnagiri, Kallakurichi, and as far as Vizhupuram too.

Since 2019, the laboratory has been upgraded into one of 6 Apex Laboratory services in the state, by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu, covered under the Essential Diagnostic Services System (EDSS), and continues to serve the needy.

Data of Services Offered

Our Department Apex Laboratory offers 42 different varieties of testing services to the public. As per Annual 2021 statistical data, average Hematology tests amounts to 12,00,000 annually, Biopsy tests average about 7,000, Cytopathology averages about 4,500. An average monthly investigation done in Out patient is 11,000, and Inpatient is around 66,000.

Future Goals

Since being an Apex Laboratory, and having voluminous case load in testing services, Govt. of Tamil Nadu has plans to upgrade it into an Ultra Apex Laboratory, with emphasis on Molecular diagnostics. Hence Insitu Hybridization tests (FISH), and Flow Cytometry, as well as Molecular Genetics (NGS), have been requested under the Essential Diagnostic Services System of the government, and is soon expected to harbor those needs in our institute.

முகப்புரை

1986 ஆம் ஆண்டு துவக்கப்பட்ட இக்கல்லூரி, அந்நாள் முதல் இத்துறை செயல்பாட்டில் உள்ளது. ஆண்டிற்கு 100 எம்.பி.பி.ஸ் மாணவர்களும், 6 எம்.டி மாணவர்களும் பயிற்றுவிக்கும் இடமாக திகழ்கிறது. இத்துறையும், 'நோய் நாடி நோய் முதல் நாடி… என்ற குறளுக்கேற்ப, அதைக்கானும் அறிவியல் செவ்வன மேற்க்கொள்ளப்படுகிறது.

சேலம் மற்றும், சுற்றுப்புற மாவட்டங்களான நாமக்கல், கரூர், ஈரோடு, தர்மபுரி, கிருஷ்ணகிரி, கள்ளக்குறிச்சி, விழுப்புரம் ஆகிய பகுதி மக்களுக்கு அரும்பெரும் சேவைப் பணிப்புரிந்து வருகிறது.

தமிழகஅரசு, இந்த 2019 ஆம் ஆண்டு முதல், இத்துறையை, உச்சஆய்வகம்(Apex Lab) ஆக தற்போது அறிவித்துள்ளது. தமிழகத்தில் உள்ள 6 உச்சஆய்வக மருத்துவமணைகளில், சேலம் மருத்துவமணையும் ஒன்று என்பது, நாம் பெருமைபட வேண்டிய விஷயமாகவும், மக்கள் சேவையில் என்றும் முன்னோடியாக திகழ வாய்ப்பளிக்க வகைச் செய்வதாகவும் அமைகிறது.

சேவைகளின் புள்ளி விவரப் பட்டியல்

இத்துறையின் உச்சஆய்வகமையத்தில் (Apex Lab) 42 வகையான பரிசோதனைகள் அரசின் அறிவுத்தலின்படி மேற்க்கொள்ளப்படுகிறது. கடந்த ஆண்டின்(2018) புள்ளி விவரங்களின்படி(Statistics), இரத்தப்பரிசோதனை(Hematology tests) சுமார் 12இலட்சம் பேருக்கு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. திசு பரிசோதனை(Biopsy) சுமார் 7000 பேருக்கும், திசுநீர் பரிசோதனை(Fluid cytology) 650 பேருக்கும், கர்பப்பைவாய் திசு பரிசோதனை(Pap smear) சுமார் 2000 பேருக்கும், நுண்ணூசி மூலம் திசு பொலிதல் (Fine needle Aspiration cytology FNAC) சுமார் 1700 பேருக்கும், இவ்வாய்வகத்தில் பரிசோதனை மேற்க்கொள்ளப்பட்டது. மேலும் கண்டறியப்பட்ட நோய் புள்ளி விவரங்களின் படி, சுமார் 1100 பேருக்கு புற்றுநோய் தாக்கம்(Malignancy) இருப்பதும், சுமார் 1200 பேருக்குபுற்றுநோய் இல்லா சாதாரண வகை(Benign conditions) இருப்பதும், சுமார் 40 பேருக்கு காசநோய் வகைகச்சார்ந்ததாகவும், மற்றும் இதரநோய்கள் 1900 பேருக்கு இருப்பதாகவும் கண்டறியப்பட்டது.

ஹீமோகுளோபினோபதி(Hemoglobinopathy) எனும் ஒரு வகையான இரத்தசோகை குறைபாடுகளை கண்டறியும் மையமாக, தமிழக அரசு மூலம் சிறப்பு திட்டம், செயல்பாட்டில் இவ்வாய்வகத்தில் நடைமுறைப்படுத்தப்பட்டது. ஏற்காடு மற்றும் கொல்லிமலை பகுதிகளில் வாழும் மக்கள் மத்தியில் இந்நோய்யைக் கண்டறியும் இத்திட்டம், தேசிய அளவில் சிறந்த திட்டம் எனக் கருதி, தேசியநல திட்டஅமைப்பு தமிழக அரசுக்கும், நம் மருத்துவமணை ஆய்வகத்திற்கும் பாராட்டு தெரிவித்துள்ளது.
மூலக்கூறு திசு ஆய்வக பரிசோதனை (Immunohistochemistry and Molecular diagnostics), இம்மையத்தில் தற்போது ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டு பரிசோதனை மேற்க்கொள்ளப்படுகிறது. புற்றுநோய் மற்றும் இதரவகை நோய்களுக்கான மூலக்காரணங்கள் அறிந்து, அதற்கேற்ப சிகிச்சை முறைகளை கையாள வகை செய்யவும் வகுக்கிறது.
இத்துறையின் ஆய்வகம் உச்சஆய்வகமாக(Apex Lab) தமிழக அரசால் மாற்றி அமைக்கப் பெற்றதால், மேலும் அதிநவீன உபகரணங்கள் மூலக்கூறு ஆய்வகத்திற்காக(ULTRA APEX LAB – Molecular diagnostics, Flow cytometry, FISH) விரைவில் அமைக்கவும் வழி மேற்க்கொள்ளப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.
